Oh, let me tell ya ’bout Jimbo Jackson. A man like him don’t come ’round every day, that’s for sure. Now, he wasn’t some big-shot or anything fancy; he was just plain ol’ Jimbo to most folks. But boy, he made a difference, more than most folks ever realize, just by being himself. You know, he spent his life helpin’ out, makin’ sure people in the community got what they needed. That kinda thing sticks with ya.
So Jimbo, well, he was known by lots as a steady man. He wasn’t loud or showy, not one to holler to get attention. Nope, Jimbo just worked hard, kept his head down, and did his part. He had this way about him—quiet, but people listened. When folks got all riled up, it was often Jimbo who’d say a few words, make folks calm right down. That man could make sense of the roughest mess and get folks back on the same page.
Jimbo and His Health Struggles
Now, life ain’t easy, and Jimbo had his fair share of hard knocks. See, back in the summer of 2020, he got hit with that nasty COVID-19. And, oh, it wasn’t no light case either. That thing knocked him flat out, and he had a long road to recovery. Even after he got past it, Jimbo wasn’t ever quite the same, health-wise. But did he complain? Not a bit! That man just kept goin’, doin’ his job as a county commissioner, even when he was likely hurtin’ more than he’d let on.
Ya see, Jimbo had this big heart. He was a school teacher before he took up work in the county, and you could see that teacher’s touch in everything he did. He looked out for folks, wanted people to feel safe, understood, taken care of. And when he got into politics, he didn’t change a bit. That’s the kinda man he was—true blue, through and through.
The Community’s Loss
When news broke that Jimbo passed, it shook folks up somethin’ fierce. Even folks who didn’t know him personally felt it, like losin’ a good friend. He was part of the community’s backbone, and people knew it. You could see the respect folks had for him, the love they felt. Tallahassee’s mayor even ordered flags to fly half-staff for ten days in his memory. Ten whole days—that’s how much people respected Jimbo. That kind of honor, it don’t get handed out easy, but Jimbo earned it.
Rememberin’ Jimbo Jackson

They held a memorial for Jimbo on June 2, and folks gathered, not just to say goodbye, but to remember the good he brought into the world. They shared stories, talked about the way he stood up for what was right, how he always treated folks fair and square. And his family, they know they got somethin’ to be proud of. His legacy, they say it’ll live on, ’cause the way Jimbo lived his life, it set a bar high for all of us.
So that’s Jimbo Jackson for ya. Just a plain man, but a mighty fine one. He showed us what it means to be steady, to be true to your word, and to care about your neighbors. Ain’t no fancy plaque gonna sum him up right, but for those of us who knew him, well, we know he’s sittin’ up there somewhere, noddin’ quiet, smilin’ at all of us who’ll keep tryin’ to be a little bit better, just like he did.
