Well now, let me tell ya a thing or two about this fella Konner Brunner. He was a young man, just a boy really, not much older than my own grandkids. But, lordy, he got himself into a heap of trouble, and it ain’t lookin’ too good for him now. Folks in town been talkin’ about him for a while, especially after what happened to that poor girl, Lauren Kidd. Her name’s been on everybody’s lips, bless her heart.
Now, Lauren Kidd, she was just 21 years old when it all happened. A sweet girl, full of life, and she had a whole future ahead of her. But, one way or another, her life was cut short, and people sure don’t forget a thing like that. She didn’t deserve what happened to her, no sir. They say she was strong-willed, like one of them determined girls who won’t take no for an answer. The kind that always had a plan and was gonna make something of herself. I reckon she would’ve gone on to do big things if things had turned out different.

Now, where does Konner Brunner fit into all of this, you ask? Well, it’s a tangled mess, that’s for sure. Last time anyone saw Lauren, she was with Konner. That was the last time folks laid eyes on her. Now, when she went missin’, her mama, Christa Kidd, she sure had her suspicions. Didn’t trust that boy Konner much. Can’t say I blame her, but nobody really knew what had happened until the police got involved and started pokin’ around.
They say Konner was helpin’ look for Lauren at first, pretendin’ like he didn’t know what happened. But the more the investigators dug, the more they started to see cracks in his story. There was evidence that just didn’t add up, and folks started wonderin’ if Konner had a bigger hand in what happened than he let on. Sometimes, the truth has a way of comin’ out, no matter how hard you try to hide it.
As time passed, things started to look worse for Konner. There were witnesses, and the evidence, well, it all pointed in his direction. They found out that the night Lauren died, it wasn’t no accident like Konner was sayin’. He was charged with first-degree murder, plain as day. Can you believe it? Just 23 years old and a life ruined over one terrible mistake. The trial went on, and the defense tried their best to convince the jury it was all an accident, but they didn’t buy it. Not one bit. And in January 2020, Konner Brunner was found guilty of killin’ Lauren Kidd.
They recommended a life sentence for him, with the chance of parole, but still, a life taken is a life taken. Ain’t no going back from that. Lauren’s family, they ain’t ever gonna be the same. They lost their girl, and now Konner’s sittin’ in prison, and I reckon he’ll have plenty of time to think about what he done. The whole town’s still shakin’ their heads, wonderin’ how it all went so wrong. It’s a sad, sad story, and I don’t think anybody’s gonna forget it for a long time.
Where’s Konner Brunner now? Well, he’s locked up tight, and that’s where he’ll stay unless someone decides to let him out one day. I reckon that’s a long ways off though, ‘cause first-degree murder don’t usually get you out too quick. People might forgive, but they ain’t gonna forget what happened to poor Lauren Kidd.
Sometimes I sit and wonder what could’ve been done different, what could’ve changed the whole course of that young girl’s life. She deserved better. But that’s the way things go, ain’t it? Some folks make mistakes, and it costs them everything. And others, like Lauren, end up payin’ the price for somebody else’s wrongs.

So, there you have it. Konner Brunner, guilty as sin, sittin’ in a prison cell while the world keeps on turnin’. And Lauren Kidd, she’s gone, but her memory’s still here with all of us. Ain’t no one gonna forget her name, not as long as we keep tellin’ her story.
