Alright, so the other day I was thinking, “Man, I gotta get more done without going crazy.” I mean, who doesn’t want that, right? So, I stumbled upon this “80/20” thing, also known as the Pareto Principle. Sounds fancy, but it’s pretty simple and makes a ton of sense.
Basically, the idea is that 80% of your results come from just 20% of your efforts. At first, I was like, “Yeah, right.” But then I started thinking about my own daily grind. I realized that I spend a lot of time on stuff that doesn’t really matter that much in the grand scheme of things.

Figuring Out My Top 20%
So, I decided to put this 80/20 thing to the test. First, I made a list of everything I do in a typical day. And I mean everything – from checking emails to working on projects to even just messing around on my phone.
Then, I went through the list and highlighted the tasks that I thought were the most impactful – the ones that actually move the needle. It was a bit tough at first, but I started to see a pattern. It turned out that a small chunk of my activities was responsible for most of my important results.
Cutting Out the Fluff
Once I identified my top 20%, I started to get ruthless. I looked at all the other stuff – the 80% that wasn’t really doing much – and I started cutting it out or at least doing it less often.
- Emails? I set aside specific times to check and respond, instead of constantly being interrupted by them.
- Meetings? I started asking myself if they were really necessary or if we could just handle things with a quick email.
- Social media? I limited my time on it and made sure I was only using it for things that mattered.
Focusing My Energy
With all that extra time and mental space, I started focusing more on my top 20%. I made sure to schedule dedicated time for those tasks and treated them like the most important things in my day – which, according to 80/20, they are!
I also started to get better at saying “no” to things that didn’t fit into my top 20%. It was hard at first, but it’s gotten easier over time. And honestly, it feels pretty good to be able to focus on what truly matters.
The Results
So, what happened after all this? Well, I’m not going to lie, it’s been pretty amazing. I’m getting way more done, but I’m less stressed about it. I feel like I have more control over my time and my life. And I’m actually making progress on the things that I care about.

I’m still figuring things out, and I’m sure I’ll keep tweaking my approach. But so far, this 80/20 thing has been a game-changer. If you’re feeling overwhelmed and like you’re not getting enough done, I highly recommend giving it a try. It might just simplify your life in the best way possible.
