So, I found myself in a bit of a funk lately, not really sure what was going on with my head, you know? It felt like something was off, but I couldn’t put my finger on it. Persistent feelings of sadness, some anxiety, you know, the whole nine yards. I started wondering if talking to someone might help, but the whole therapy world seemed so confusing. What kind of therapist should I even see?
Then it hit me – maybe there’s a quiz or something online that could point me in the right direction. A quick search later, and boom, I stumbled upon these “What Type of Therapy Do I Need” quizzes. Seemed like a good starting point, right?

I decided to give one of these quizzes a shot. The questions were pretty straightforward, nothing too intense. Stuff like how I’ve been feeling, what I’m hoping to get out of therapy, and what kind of approach I think I’d be comfortable with. It took maybe 10-15 minutes to fill out.
After I finished the quiz, it spit out a result suggesting a couple of therapy types that might be a good fit for me. One of them was cognitive behavioral therapy, or CBT. I’d heard of it before, but didn’t really know much about it. Another suggestion was something called mindfulness-based therapy, which sounded interesting too.
- First step: Took the “What Type of Therapy Do I Need” quiz.
- Second step: Got my results – CBT and mindfulness-based therapy.
- Next up: Did some more digging into these types of therapy to see what they’re all about.
Digging Deeper
The quiz was a helpful starting point, but I knew I needed to do more research. It’s my mental health, after all, so I wanted to be sure I was making an informed decision. I spent some time reading up on CBT and mindfulness-based therapy. CBT seemed to focus on identifying and changing negative thought patterns, while mindfulness was more about being present in the moment and accepting your thoughts and feelings without judgment.
I realized that a quiz can only tell you so much. It’s a good tool to narrow down the options, but it’s not a replacement for talking to an actual therapist. These quizzes are just designed to suggest a few common types of therapy. The best way is just asking the therapist to figure out what kind of therapy you should use. It might be a bit awkward to have that conversation, but probably better to address any confusion.
I also did some soul-searching, thinking about what I really wanted to get out of therapy. What were my goals? What were my expectations? It helped to write things down, just to get it all out of my head.
Ultimately, the quiz was a good first step in figuring out what kind of therapy might be right for me. It helped me understand that there are different approaches out there, and it gave me a starting point for further research. It got me thinking more seriously about my mental health and what I wanted to achieve. But I know the journey doesn’t end here. I still need to find a therapist I connect with and start the actual work. But at least now, I feel a bit more prepared and a little less lost in the world of therapy.
