Okay, so I’ve been messing around with keyboards lately, trying to figure out which switches I like best. I got my hands on some Cherry MX Browns and Reds, and I’m here to tell you all about my little experiment.
First off, I grabbed two keyboards – one with Cherry MX Browns and one with Reds. I wanted to get a real feel for how different they are. The Browns are supposed to have that tactile bump, you know, that little feedback when you press a key. Reds, on the other hand, are all smooth, no bump at all.

I started with the Browns. I typed up a storm, just random stuff, emails, you name it. I wanted to see if that tactile bump made a difference. Honestly, it was pretty nice. It’s like the keys were talking back to me, saying “yep, you pressed me.” It felt satisfying, like I was getting things done. And they weren’t loud, which is a plus, especially when I’m working late and don’t want to wake anyone up.
- Typing on Browns:
- Felt the bump, liked it.
- Not too noisy.
- Good for typing a lot.
Then I switched to the Reds. Now, these are supposed to be the gamer’s choice, all smooth and fast. I played a few games, nothing too crazy, just to see how they felt. And yeah, they were smooth. My fingers just flew across the keys. It was almost like the keys weren’t even there. I can see why gamers like these, especially when you need to press keys really fast.
- Gaming on Reds:
- Super smooth.
- Fast key presses.
- Great for gaming.
But here’s the thing, I also tried typing on the Reds for a while. And you know what? It wasn’t bad. It was different, for sure. No bump, just smooth sailing. I found that I had to be a little more precise with my typing, just to make sure I was hitting the right keys. But it was still pretty comfortable.
So, after all this, what did I decide? Well, it’s tough. Both switches have their own things going for them. The Browns are great for typing, that tactile feedback is just so satisfying. But the Reds, they’re smooth and fast, perfect for gaming but not bad for typing either.
My Final Thoughts
If I had to pick just one, just for everyday use and some light gaming, I think I’d go with the Browns. I just like that bump, it makes typing feel better. But if you’re a hardcore gamer, or if you really like that smooth feeling, then the Reds might be the way to go. It all comes down to what you like, really. Try them both if you can, and see which one feels right for you. That is what I did, and hope my experience can help you guys!
