Door Stopper Size: Whats the Right Size for Your Door?

Posted on 05/01/202505/01/2025 by NewsNomad

Okay, so, I had this problem at home. My doors just wouldn’t stay put. They would either slam shut or swing wide open at the slightest breeze. It was driving me nuts! So I thought, “I gotta get some door stoppers.” But then I realized, I had no clue what size to get. It’s not like one size fits all, right?

So I did what any normal person would do. I started looking around my place. I noticed that the gap under my doors varied quite a bit. Some were almost touching the floor, while others had a pretty big gap. And I also noticed I had different floor types, which can affect it. I’ve got carpet in the bedrooms, hardwood in the living room, and tile in the bathroom.

Door Stopper Size: Whats the Right Size for Your Door?

I grabbed a ruler and started measuring the gap under each door. For the doors with a small gap, I figured I needed a shorter door stopper. And for the ones with a bigger gap, I obviously needed a taller one. But also the door itself is important. I measured the doors and found some is heavy and some is light. I decided to use solid stops or heavy-duty hinge pin stops for thicker, solid-core doors, and if you choose hinge stops, I installed them on both the top and bottom hinges if the door is exceptionally heavy. If your door tends to swing on its own, you should consider a magnetic stop to hold the door open.

After I had all my measurements, I went online to see what my options were and try to order some. I saw a lot of variety, with Prime free shipping! They had those little rubber ones, those heavy-duty ones, and even some that looked pretty stylish. I ended up getting a variety pack. That way, I could try out different sizes and see what worked best for each door.

    Here’s what I learned:

  • Measure the gap: It’s the most important thing. Don’t just guess!
  • Consider the door type: Heavier doors need sturdier door stoppers.
  • Try different types: A variety pack is a good way to start.
  • Don’t be afraid to experiment: You might need to try a few different door stoppers before you find the perfect one.

So, yeah, that’s my story about door stopper sizes. It might seem like a small thing, but it made a big difference in my house. No more slamming doors! And that made it a good day.
