Okay, so, I’ve been on this whole mechanical keyboard kick lately. I wanted something that felt awesome to type on, looked cool, and didn’t totally break the bank. After digging around online and checking out a bunch of reviews, I decided to give Royal Kludge keyboards a shot. They seemed to have a pretty good rep for being solid quality without being crazy expensive.
First, I started by looking at their website. They have a whole bunch of different models. I mean, seriously, it was a little overwhelming at first! There’s the RK61, the RK S98, and a ton of others. I spent a good chunk of time just clicking through and reading about the different features.

The RK61 caught my eye because it’s a 60% keyboard. That means it’s smaller and more compact than a regular full-size keyboard. I figured that would be perfect for my desk, which, let’s be honest, is usually pretty cluttered. Plus, it’s way cheaper than a lot of other 60% keyboards I’d been looking at, like the Corsair K70 Pro Mini. The only bummer is it’s missing out some fancy multi-colored RGB lighting, but I didn’t care much about it.
But then I saw the S98, and it looked really sleek. It has this cool design, and I liked that it had more keys than the RK61, but it was still smaller than a full-size keyboard. The reviews for the S98 were also pretty glowing. People were saying it felt amazing to type on, although there were some minor complaints.
After a lot of back and forth, I finally pulled the trigger and ordered the RK S98. It arrived a few days later, and I was super excited to unbox it. The quality of the keyboard feels amazing! Right away, I could tell it was well-made. It’s got some weight to it, and the keys felt really nice under my fingers. It’s got some bright RGB, which was an unexpected plus. It came with lubed stabilizers and it was compact in size just like I wanted!
I plugged it in and started typing, and man, it was a huge difference from my old keyboard! The keys are so responsive, and they make this satisfying “thock” sound that I’m kind of obsessed with now, haha. I got the version with the brown switches, which are supposed to be good for both typing and gaming.
My Final Thoughts
Honestly, I’m really happy with my Royal Kludge keyboard. It’s been a total game-changer for me. Typing feels so much better now, and I actually look forward to sitting down at my computer to write. Some people say it’s not that good and I should save up for a better one, but I’m not planning to mod it, so for me, it’s perfect. If you are looking for a good mechanical keyboard and don’t wanna spend too much money, I’d definitely recommend checking out Royal Kludge. You might be surprised at how good they are for the price!
- Pros:
- Great typing experience
- Solid build quality
- Affordable price
- Compact size
- Bright RGB lighting
- Lubed stabilizers
- Cons:
- Some people say it’s not that good if you don’t mod it
Oh, and a quick tip! I saw some people online saying that the wireless version is way more expensive. So, if you don’t really need wireless, you can save some cash by going with the wired version.

Alright, that’s my little keyboard adventure. Hope this helps someone out there who’s also on the hunt for a great keyboard!
