Okay, so I’ve been meaning to spruce up my driveway and patio for a while now. They were looking pretty dull, and I wanted something that would not only protect the concrete but also give it a nice, clean look. After doing some digging around, I decided to give the Dutch Boy Concrete Sealer a shot. Here’s how it went down.
First off, I grabbed a few gallons of the Dutch Boy sealer. It wasn’t the cheapest on the market, but it definitely wasn’t the most expensive either, somewhere in that $20 to $200 a gallon range, which seemed reasonable. The label on the product said it would give a “wet look” with a high-gloss finish, and that sounded exactly like what I was looking for. I also picked up a 3/8″ nap roller because my concrete surfaces are pretty smooth. I saw you could use a brush too, but a roller seemed way easier.

Before I started applying the sealer, I made sure to give the driveway and patio a good cleaning. I mean i did a deep clean, swept away all the dirt, leaves, and whatever else had accumulated over time. It’s super important to have a clean surface so the sealer can really stick well. Then, I waited for a nice, sunny day, because the instructions mentioned that dry times would vary depending on the weather. I didn’t want any rain messing up my hard work.
Applying the sealer was pretty straightforward. I poured some into a paint tray, loaded up my roller, and started going at it. I made sure to apply a thin, even coat, just like the instructions said. The sealer went on smoothly, and I could immediately see the concrete getting that wet look I was after. It really did intensify the color of the concrete.
- First coat: After the first coat, I let it dry for about 2 hours. The instructions said this was enough time for light foot traffic.
- Second coat: I waited a bit longer before applying the second coat, just to be safe. This time, I really saw the high-gloss finish start to pop.
The hardest part was probably waiting for it to fully cure. The label said it could take 72-96 hours for a full cure, which felt like forever! But hey, good things come to those who wait, right? During this time, I kept everyone off the driveway and patio, which was a bit of a pain, but it had to be done.
Once the waiting was over, I was stoked with the results. The driveway and patio looked amazing! The high-gloss finish gave it such a clean and polished look. It’s like I had brand new concrete poured. Plus, I noticed that water just beaded up on the surface, which is great for protection.
A few weeks later, I accidentally spilled some oil on the driveway while working on my car. Normally, this would have been a nightmare, but because of the sealer, it was super easy to clean up. The oil didn’t soak in at all. I just wiped it away, and there was no stain left behind. That alone made the whole process worth it.
Overall, I’m really happy with how the Dutch Boy Concrete Sealer turned out. It was easy to apply, gave my concrete a fantastic wet look with a high-gloss finish, and it’s already proven to be super protective. If you’re looking to give your concrete surfaces a makeover, I’d definitely recommend giving this sealer a try.

One last thing, I remember seeing some reviews for other concrete sealers, like the Tamms Luster Seal 300, but I’m glad I went with Dutch Boy. It’s held up great so far, and I’m hoping it’ll keep my driveway and patio looking fresh for years to come.
