Okay, so today I wanted to figure out how many kilometers are in 5 miles. It’s something I’ve been curious about, and I thought it would be a fun little project to document.
First, I did a quick search online. Seems like the magic number is 1.609344. That’s the factor you use to convert miles to kilometers. So, in theory, I just needed to multiply 5 by 1.609344, and that would give me the answer.

I grabbed my calculator, because, let’s be honest, I’m not doing that math in my head. I punched in 5, then the multiply button, followed by 1.609344. Then I hit the equals sign, and… drumroll please…
- The result popped up: 8.04672.
So, there you have it. 5 miles is roughly equal to 8.04672 kilometers. Not too shabby for a quick little calculation, right? I think I’ll write this down just in case I need it later.
I also found out that a mile is equal to 5,280 feet. Who knew? That just tells me how far I have to walk to walk a mile. Now, I decided to test this newfound knowledge on a walk today. I tracked my distance, and sure enough, when I hit 5 miles, my tracker showed a little over 8 kilometers. Pretty cool to see it in action!
This was a good one. I learned something new and even got some exercise in the process. That’s all, just wanted to share my findings with everyone.
