Today I spent some time playing around with a question that had been bugging me – how much does the average computer mouse weigh? I mean, we use these things every day, but do we ever stop to think about their heft? I decided to find out.
First, I gathered a bunch of mice from around my house and office. I had everything from a tiny travel mouse to a big ol’ ergonomic one with all the bells and whistles. I even had an ancient-looking wired one from my old desktop setup I found in my storage. In total, I collected 8 mice, which seemed like a decent sample size.

Next, I needed a way to weigh these bad boys. I don’t have a fancy lab-grade scale lying around, but I do have a digital kitchen scale that measures in grams. It’s not super precise, but it would do the job.
I weighed each mouse one by one, carefully placing them on the scale and noting down the weight in grams. Here’s what I found:
- Tiny travel mouse: 57 grams
- Old-school wired mouse: 96 grams
- Standard wireless mouse #1: 72 grams
- Standard wireless mouse #2: 80 grams
- Ergonomic mouse: 142 grams
- Gaming mouse: 105 grams
- Another regular wireless one: 68 grams
- Slightly fancy mouse: 85 grams
After getting all the individual weights, I whipped out my calculator and calculated the average. I just added up all the weights and divided by the number of mice (which was 8). And you know what? The average weight of the mice I tested came out to be around 90 grams.
So, there you have it. The average mouse in my totally unscientific experiment weighs about 90 grams. Of course, this isn’t a definitive answer for every mouse in the world, but it’s a fun little tidbit to know. Now, whenever I use my mouse, I’ll remember this little experiment and have a newfound appreciation for its weight.
