Okay, so today I wanted to try making a turmeric body lotion. I’ve heard so many good things about turmeric for the skin, like how it can help with brightening and has anti-inflammatory properties. So, I thought, why not give it a shot?
First, I gathered all my ingredients. I already had some shea butter and coconut oil at home, which are great for moisturizing. Then I got some turmeric powder, you know, the one you use for cooking, and a bit of essential oil for a nice scent. I chose lavender because it’s so relaxing.

I started by melting the shea butter and coconut oil together. I just put them in a bowl over a pot of simmering water. It’s like a DIY double boiler, pretty simple. Once they were all melted and mixed, I took the bowl off the heat and let it cool down a bit.
Next, I stirred in the turmeric powder. I went with about a teaspoon, but I was kind of eyeballing it, to be honest. I also added a few drops of the lavender essential oil. I didn’t want the scent to be too overpowering, just a hint of it.
After mixing everything together, I put the mixture in the fridge to let it solidify a little. It took about 20 minutes, I guess. I was checking it every now and then because I didn’t want it to become too hard. I needed it to be soft enough to whip.
Once it was semi-solid, I took it out and used an electric hand mixer to whip it up. This part was fun! It started to look like a real body lotion, all fluffy and creamy. I whipped it for a few minutes until it was light and airy.
Finally, I scooped the lotion into a clean jar. And that’s it! Homemade turmeric body lotion. It was way easier than I thought it would be. I’ve been using it for a few days now, and my skin feels really soft. Plus, it has this slight natural glow, which I love.
My little tips:
- Be careful with the amount of turmeric you use, it can stain a little.
- You can use any essential oil you like, just depends on your preference.
- Store the lotion in a cool, dry place. It should last a good while.
I might try adding some other ingredients next time, maybe some honey or aloe vera. But for now, I’m pretty happy with how this turned out. It’s a simple, natural, and budget-friendly way to take care of your skin. Give it a try if you’re into DIY skincare, you might be surprised!
