Okay, so, I’ve been messing around with mechanical keyboards lately, and let me tell you, it’s a whole different world. Today, let’s talk about the age-old debate: red or brown switches?
Getting Started
First off, I grabbed a couple of keyboards with these switches to really get a feel for them. I snagged one with linear red switches and another with tactile brown switches. I wanted to see what all the fuss was about, you know?

Experimenting With Reds
- I started typing on the red switch keyboard. Smooth, no bumps, just straight down and up.
- Honestly, it felt pretty good for gaming. My fingers just glided across the keys.
- But for typing… I was making a lot of typos. It was easy to miss click things accidentally since there is no bump to give you a better feel.
Giving Browns a Shot
- Then I switched over to the brown switch keyboard.
- Right away, I noticed that little bump when I pressed a key. It’s subtle, but it’s there.
- Typing felt more… intentional? I guess that’s the word. I was making fewer mistakes.
- For gaming, it wasn’t bad, but it didn’t have that same slippery-smooth feel as the reds.
The Verdict
After going back and forth, here’s my take. If you’re mostly gaming, reds might be your jam. But if you do a lot of typing and still want to do gaming, browns offer a nice middle ground. I personally ended up liking the browns more. That little bump just makes a difference for me, helping me type more accurately. But hey, everyone’s different! That’s what I’ve figured out.
At the end of the day, I realized that it comes down to personal preference, as what everyone said. So, if you can, try out both red and brown switches yourself. You might be surprised at what you end up liking!
