Alright, so today I tried to make this “1687 world map” thing. It seemed pretty cool, and I figured, why not give it a shot?
Getting Started
First, I needed to find a good base image. You know, something that looked old and had that vintage vibe. I spent a good chunk of time just browsing through online, until I finally stumbled upon one that looked promising.

The Messy Part
Next, I got to work. Now, I’m no artist, so this was going to be interesting. I opened up the image in an editing, and started messing around. I tried different brushes, played with colors, and basically just experimented until things started to look somewhat decent.
- Adding the details. This was the fun part. I wanted to add old ships.
- Figuring out the colors. I wanted that aged, faded look.
- Making mistakes. Lots of them.
Making it Look “Old”
The real trick was to make the map look authentic, that’s the most difficult things to do.I found some textures online and overlaid them on the map. This gave it a more worn, weathered appearance. I also added some subtle stains and imperfections, because, let’s face it, a map from 1687 wouldn’t be pristine.
Finishing Touches
After a lot of trial and error, I finally got something I was pretty happy with. I added a simple border to give it a more finished look, and that was it! My very own 1687-style world map.
It’s definitely not perfect, but I had a blast making it. And hey, I learned a few new things along the way. That’s what counts, right? Maybe I’ll try another one sometime, and see if I can improve. Who knows?
