10 Days in India: See the Best Sights with this Perfect Travel Itinerary.

Posted on 20/02/202520/02/2025 by ReportageRaconteur

Okay, so I’ve always dreamt of visiting India, and I finally made it happen! I planned a 10-day trip, and let me tell you, it was a whirlwind. Here’s how I did it.

Brainstorming and Research

First things first, I started by listing down all the places I desperately wanted to see. The Taj Mahal, obviously, was top of the list. Then, I dove into travel blogs and forums (no specific names, of course!). I spent hours just reading about different regions, trying to figure out what was feasible in 10 days.

10 Days in India: See the Best Sights with this Perfect Travel Itinerary.

Narrowing Down the Destinations

India is HUGE. I quickly realized I couldn’t do it all. So, I focused on the “Golden Triangle” (Delhi, Agra, and Jaipur) and added Varanasi because I was really keen on experiencing the spiritual side of India.

Crafting the Itinerary

  • Day 1-2: Delhi – I landed in Delhi and immediately headed to my hotel. I explored Old Delhi’s crazy, bustling streets, visited the Red Fort and Jama Masjid, and ate some amazing street food (be careful with your stomach, though!).
  • Day 3: Agra – I took an early morning train to Agra. The Taj Mahal? Absolutely breathtaking. I spent hours just wandering around, taking it all in. I also checked out Agra Fort.
  • Day 4-6: Jaipur – Another train ride got me to Jaipur, the “Pink City.” I visited the Amber Fort (elephant ride – check!), explored the City Palace, and got lost in the colorful markets.
  • Day 7-9: Varanasi – I flew to Varanasi. This place is intense. I took a boat ride on the Ganges at sunrise, witnessed the evening aarti ceremony (fire rituals), and just walked around, soaking in the atmosphere.
  • Day 10: Departure – I flew back to Delhi from Varanasi for my flight home. Exhausted but happy!

Booking Flights and Accommodation

I booked all my flights and trains well in advance. For accommodation, I mixed it up – some budget-friendly hotels and a couple of nicer ones for a treat. I used some generic booking platforms to find deals, make sure to do so!

Packing Essentials

Packing was a bit of a challenge. I needed light, comfortable clothes, but also some modest outfits for visiting temples. I packed essentials like sunscreen, insect repellent, a good hat, and a basic first-aid kit.

Reflections and Adjustments

It was an incredible trip, but honestly, it was super rushed. If I could do it again, I’d probably spend a few more days in each place. Ten days is just enough to scratch the surface. I also learned to expect the unexpected – delays, crowds, and the occasional upset stomach are all part of the adventure!

Overall, I embraced the chaos, and this trip is one I’ll always cherish. It was hard, but well worth the experience.
