Play Fountains by Josh Baldwin: Chords and Lyrics (Easy Guitar Lesson)

Posted on 25/02/202525/02/2025 by ReportageRanger

Okay, so I wanted to learn that song “Fountains” by Josh Baldwin. You know, the one that goes, “My soul thirsts for you, oh God…” Yeah, that one. I’m no guitar pro, but I figured I’d give it a shot and share my messy journey with you all.

The Hunt for Chords

First things first, I needed the chords. A quick Google search, you’ll find the chords and lyrics everywhere and it seemed easy enough.

Strumming Struggles

So, I printed out that chord sheet, grabbed my guitar, and started strumming. Sounded… rough. Really rough. The transitions between chords were clunky, and my fingers felt like clumsy sausages.

  • Problem #1: My pinky finger just wouldn’t cooperate. That G chord? Forget about it.
  • Problem #2: Switching from, say, a C to a G? Took me like five seconds. The song was long gone by the time I got there.

I practiced those transitions over, and over, and over. Slowly, painfully slowly, it started to sound a little better. I mean, you could at least recognize the song. Maybe.

The Singing Part (Oh Boy)

Then came the singing. Now, I sing in the shower. I sing in the car. But singing and playing guitar at the same time? That’s a whole different beast.

I tried to match my voice to the recording, but my voice cracked, I forgot the words, and my guitar playing went out the window. It was a mess. A beautiful, glorious mess, but still a mess.

Tiny Victories

But I kept at it. I’d play a verse, mess up, start again. Play a chorus, stumble on the words, start again. After a few days of this, something magical happened.

I managed to play and sing through the first verse without messing up! Okay, it was slow, and probably not perfectly in tune, but I did it!

Still a Work in Progress

Am I ready to perform “Fountains” in front of a crowd? Absolutely not. Will I keep practicing? You bet. It’s still rough around the edges, my fingers still fumble, and my voice still cracks,

But I’m getting there. Slowly but surely,I finally can play and sing the full song, that’s a big success for me.

So, that’s my “Fountains” adventure so far. It’s been humbling, frustrating, and ultimately, rewarding. It’s a reminder that even the simplest things can be challenging, and that’s okay. It’s all part of the process, right?
