Okay, so I was messing around with Snapchat the other day, and I noticed this weird gray box popping up. It wasn’t always there, and I was super confused about what it meant. So, I did what any normal person would do – I dove headfirst into figuring it out!
Experiment Time!
First, I tried to recreate the situation. I started sending snaps to different friends, some with text, some with just pictures, some with videos. I was trying to see if there was a pattern to when this gray box showed up.

- Sent a photo snap – no gray box.
- Sent a video snap – still no gray box.
- Sent a text-only snap…BINGO! The gray box appeared.
So it shows like if the snap pending, that is the reason caused this problem.
I observed it carefully. it replace the usual red or purple arrow. It looked faded, almost like it wasn’t fully sent. Also tested by turning off Wi-Fi and mobile data right after sending a snap, this can also make the gray box appear.
Figuring It Out
After all my trials, it seemed pretty clear that the gray box had something to do with sending or pending. Like, maybe the snap hadn’t gone through properly? It was all just a waiting game, really.
So, if you see that gray box, that means the snap is still trying to send. And it’s a good reminder to just be patient and check your connection!
