Okay, so I’ve always been fascinated by those Seabob things – you know, the underwater scooters that look like they’re straight out of a James Bond movie. I finally got my hands on one and, of course, the first thing I wanted to know was: how fast can this thing actually go?
I started by, you know, just messing around. I charged it up fully, which is super important. You don’t want to be stuck in the middle of the lake with a dead battery. Then, I found a nice, calm stretch of water – safety first, always! I hopped on, got a good grip, and slowly eased into the throttle.

At first, it’s pretty chill. It glides along nicely, and you can feel the power, but it’s not overwhelming. It’s like a gentle pull, you can use it to slowly move foward. But then…I cranked it up.
Testing the Speed
- First try: I went full throttle, holding on tight. The water started rushing past me, and I could definitely feel the speed picking up. It felt way faster than swimming, that’s for sure. But, it was hard to tell exactly how fast.
- Second try: This time, I tried to keep track of some landmarks on the shore. I picked a point, hit full throttle, and tried to estimate how long it took me to get to another point. Still pretty rough, but I got a better sense of the speed.
- Third try(The smart way): My friend had a brilliant idea. I’ve got a waterproof watch, strapped my watch, set the watch to count down my speed, and zipped back and forth.
I did a few runs like that, each time trying to hold the throttle steady and get a good read on the watch. It was tricky, battling the waves and all, but I think I got some pretty good data.
Now, I’m no scientist, and this wasn’t exactly a controlled experiment. But, based on my very unofficial testing, I’d say that thing can really move! It’s exhilarating, and totally addictive. I’d say it could be a bit faster than what I tested, I still have a lot to learn I think.
I think I’m gonna keep practicing and see if I can get even better at gauging the speed. Maybe I’ll even invest in some proper speed-measuring gear, haha. For now, though, I’m just stoked to have experienced the thrill of a Seabob at full throttle!
