Okay, here’s my blog post about figuring out the lyrics to “God Will Take Care of You” by Edwin Hawkins:
So, I’ve been on this huge Edwin Hawkins kick lately. You know, classic gospel, that amazing choir sound…the works. And there’s this one song, “God Will Take Care of You,” that just hits different. It’s so comforting, but I realized I was kinda mumbling along to some parts because I didn’t really know the words.

First, I tried just listening really, really hard. I played the song like a million times, cranked up the volume, and focused. It kinda worked? I got a few more words, but some parts were still a blur. Especially with all those voices layered on top of each other, it’s beautiful, but tough to decipher!
My “Process” (If You Can Call It That)
- Step 1: Denial. “I totally know the words…mostly.”
- Step 2: Intense Listening. Headphones, repeat, repeat, repeat.
- Step 3: Humbling search.
I finally gave up on my ears-only approach. I figured, “There HAS to be a lyric video or something out there.”
I typed “god will take care of you lyrics – edwin hawkins” into the search bar.
I could finally sing along with confidence! And more importantly, I could really feel the meaning of the song now that I understood every word. It’s way more powerful when you’re not just humming along.
This whole thing reminded me that sometimes you just gotta look things up! No shame in needing a little help, especially when it comes to appreciating good music. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I’m gonna go blast this song and sing my heart out – correctly this time!
