Can Kids Use Oil Pulling? See the Safe and Easy Guide!

Posted on 19/03/202519/03/2025 by silkroads

Okay, so I’ve been seeing this “oil pulling” thing all over the internet, and honestly, I was curious. My kid has been having some, uh, morning breath issues, and I thought, “Hey, maybe this could help?” So, I started looking into it.

My Little Experiment

First, I dug around online to see if it was even safe for kids. I mean, swallowing a mouthful of oil? Didn’t sound like a great idea at first. I found some stuff saying it was okay, some saying to be careful, you know, the usual internet mixed bag.

Can Kids Use Oil Pulling? See the Safe and Easy Guide!

I decided to try it myself first, obviously. No way was I going to make my kid do something I hadn’t tested. I grabbed some coconut oil – seemed like the most popular choice – and swished it around in my mouth. It felt…weird. Like, really weird. Oily, obviously, and kind of thick. I managed to keep it in for about 5 minutes before I spat it out. My mouth felt…clean? I guess? It’s hard to describe.

  • Day 1: Tried it myself. Felt strange, but okay.
  • Day 2: Tried it again. Still weird, but maybe a little less so?
  • Day 3: Okay, I’m kind of getting used to this. Mouth feels pretty fresh afterward.

After a few days of my own “research,” I decided to give it a shot with my kid. I explained the whole thing – “It’s like a mouthwash, but it’s oil!” – and, surprisingly, they were game. We started with just a tiny bit of coconut oil, like, half a teaspoon. I told them to swish gently, not swallow, and keep it in for just a minute or two.

They made a face, of course. It’s oil, after all. But they did it! And, honestly, it seemed to help. The, uh, morning breath situation definitely improved. We’ve been doing it a few times a week now, and it’s become part of our routine. I still make sure they don’t swallow any, and we always brush our teeth afterward.

So, yeah, that’s my oil pulling story. It’s been a bit of a journey, from “What the heck is this?” to “Okay, this actually kind of works!” I can say that I made the whole family start doing this, and it seem it worked for everyone.
