Where to buy lovely middle eastern tiles? See amazing designs that make your home beautiful.

So, I decided to get my hands dirty with these middle eastern tiles a while back. I’ve always been drawn to them, you know? The patterns, the colors. Figured it’d be a nice little project, something to focus on.

The Grand Plan… Or So I Thought

First thing, I dived into looking for inspiration. Spent a good few hours, maybe more, just scrolling through pictures. Geometric designs, floral motifs, the whole lot. I told myself, “Pick something simple to start, don’t go crazy.” So I found a pattern that looked, well, manageable. Famous last words, right?

Then came the “how.” How was I actually going to make these designs? I had some basic art supplies, tried sketching. My first attempts? A total mess. Honestly, they looked like something my kid would bring home from kindergarten. Lines were wobbly, proportions all wrong. It was way harder than I expected. Not at all like just looking at a pretty picture.

It actually brought back this memory, this one job I had ages ago. We were supposed to be launching this new product, a team of us. Sounds straightforward, doesn’t it? But talk about a disaster. The marketing folks weren’t talking to the tech guys, the tech guys had their own ideas that didn’t match what sales was promising. Everyone was off in their own little world, doing their own thing. It was like trying to assemble flat-pack furniture with instructions in a language you don’t speak, and half the screws missing. We spent months, literal months, going in circles. Meetings about meetings. Nothing got done properly. Just a complete shambles, because nobody was on the same page. Reminded me of my first tile scribbles – all enthusiasm, no coordination.

Figuring Things Out, Slowly

Anyway, with the tiles, after that initial faceplant, I realized I needed a proper strategy. I started to really study the patterns. Not just glance at them. I looked at how they were built, the underlying geometry. Turns out, there’s a lot of math in those pretty designs. Who knew?

So, I dug out some old graph paper. Yes, actual paper. And a ruler. I started plotting out the basic units of the pattern. It was slow. Painfully slow. Lots of erasing. Lots of squinting. I’d draw a bit, then compare it to the reference, then erase, then draw again.

  • I broke the pattern down into the smallest repeating section I could find.
  • Then I focused on getting that one little piece right.
  • Once I had that, I tried to repeat it, making sure it all connected up properly. That was a challenge in itself.
  • Then came colors. Oh boy, colors. Trying to get the right shades, the right combinations. That was a whole other battle.

I must have spent a solid weekend just on one design. My kitchen table looked like an explosion in a craft store. But, you know, eventually, something started to take shape. It wasn’t perfect, not by a long shot. But it actually looked like a middle eastern tile pattern. And I made it. That felt pretty good, I tell ya. A small victory, but a victory nonetheless, especially after remembering that chaotic job.

What I Learned, I Guess

It’s funny, isn’t it? You see these incredible, intricate tile installations, and they just look beautiful. You don’t really think about the sheer amount of work, the precision, the planning that went into each tiny piece. Trying to do even a simplified version myself really hammered home how skilled those artisans were, and still are.

It sort of showed me that sometimes, to get something that looks effortlessly beautiful, there’s a whole lot of very structured, very careful work underneath. A bit like anything, really. You only see the finished product, not all the sweat and tears. And sometimes, just focusing on getting those tiny pieces to fit together just right can be surprisingly satisfying. Way more satisfying than trying to get different departments to talk to each other, that’s for sure.
