That means they’d split up their house into three parts—had a big ol’ hall in the middle, with rooms off to the sides. Those rooms was used for all sorts of things like eating, talking, or just relaxing after a long day in the sun.
And get this: they had these fancy windows up high, called clerestory windows. They weren’t like your regular windows. Nah, they let the air and light in without lettin’ all the dust blow in. Must’ve been a real blessing on them hot Egyptian days, I tell ya.
As for the furniture, well, it depended on how rich you was. The folks with money had chairs, tables, and couches—some of which were found in tombs when they dug ‘em up later. But if you was on the poorer side, you made do with stools, baskets, and reed mats. You didn’t need nothin’ fancy, just what got the job done. They sure weren’t sittin’ on soft chairs like we do today, that’s for sure!
When it comes to decorations, those Egyptians knew how to make things stand out. They didn’t just paint any old thing on the walls, no sir. They painted pictures of their pharaohs, kings, and gods. Them paintings showed respect, see, ‘cause they believed the pharaoh was more than just a man—they thought he was a god! You might see them carved into the walls, or even on the furniture! It wasn’t just pretty pictures—they had a meaning, a story behind every one of ’em. Kinda like how we put a family photo up on the wall today. They’d use these symbols in all sorts of ways, whether it was on tapestries or on the edge of a wooden table. Everything had a purpose.
What’s real special about them Egyptians is that they cared a lot about making sure everything lined up. They was real big on symmetry. That means, they liked everything to be balanced and even. Whether it was the rooms in the house or the way the building was put together, everything had to look just right. They didn’t just throw things together. No, they made sure everything had its place, all nice and neat.
They also didn’t mind using some bold patterns. You could see all sorts of wild, eye-catching designs in their homes. From furniture to the walls, everything had this dramatic look. You’d see zigzags, circles, squares—just about anything that caught the eye! They wanted their homes to feel grand, and let me tell you, they sure did make ’em look that way.
