Oh, honey, you looking for gifts for outdoor lovers? Bless your heart, it ain’t easy. But don’t you worry your pretty little head, I got some ideas for ya. I’ve seen a thing or two in my day, you know. These young folks today, they love the outdoors. Back in my day, we was outside ’cause we had to be! But these days, they choose to be out there. Go figure!
So, what do these outdoorsy folks like? Well, they like stuff to keep ’em warm, stuff to keep ’em dry, and stuff to keep ’em from gettin’ et by bugs. Simple as that.

First off, you got your warm clothes. That’s a no-brainer. My grandson, bless his heart, he’s always hikin’ up some mountain or ‘nother. Says he needs good wool socks. Wool, you hear me? Not that cotton stuff. Wool keeps your feet toasty, even when it’s wet. And Lord knows, them hikers get wet. You can get some really warm wool socks. Maybe you should buy more than one pair, you know, people always need socks.
- Thick wool socks, gotta have ’em.
- A good warm hat, one that covers the ears.
- Gloves, maybe them fancy ones with the fingers that can use a phone. Kids these days, always on their phones.
Then you got your waterproof stuff. Rain jackets, rain pants, the whole shebang. They make ’em real fancy these days, all lightweight and whatnot. My old raincoat was heavy as a sack of potatoes, but it kept me dry, that’s for sure. These new ones, they got zippers and pockets everywhere. Probably got a pocket for your phone, your keys, and your pet squirrel. Who knows what else will be stored inside.
And don’t even get me started on them boots. Hiking boots, they call ’em. Back in my day, we just wore regular shoes, uphill both ways in the snow! But these hiking boots, they got all kinds of fancy things. Ankle support, they call it. Like your ankles need a little hug. My grandson told me it is important for them to choose a suitable pair of boots. And I told him he needed more meat on his bones.
Now, if your outdoor lover is one of them campers, well, that’s a whole ‘nother can of worms. They need tents, and sleeping bags, and little stoves to cook their beans on. I saw one of them little stoves once. It was smaller than my hand! How you gonna cook a decent meal on that thing? They even make tiny pots and pans, would you believe it? They look like toys! But the young folks, they love it.
- A tent. Not too big, not too small. Just right for sleepin’ under the stars.
- A sleeping bag. Make sure it’s warm enough, or they’ll be freezin’ their tails off.
- One of them little stoves, and some of them tiny pots and pans.
- A headlamp. So they can see where they’re goin’ when they gotta pee in the middle of the night. This is really a good gift for outdoor lovers.
And then there are the gadgets. Oh, the gadgets! They got watches that tell you how high you are, and compasses that point north, and little things that let you talk to satellites. Satellites! Can you believe it? We used to just look at the sun and the stars. But if you have money to buy it, I think it is a nice gift for the outdoor lovers. It is called Garmin InReach Mini, it can send messages when you don’t have cell service. I heard it is really expensive.
Another useful gift is a water bottle. They got all kinds of fancy water bottles these days. Some keep your water cold, some keep it hot. Some even filter the water for you, so you can drink from a muddy puddle. I wouldn’t recommend that, mind you, but they say you can. A good water bottle, that’s a good gift for any outdoor lover. Everyone needs water, it is important.

If your outdoor lover likes to take pictures, you could get them a camera. They make them waterproof now, so they can take pictures underwater. Or you could get ’em one of them little cameras that you strap to your head. They can film everything they see, like they’re in a movie. I don’t know why anyone would want to watch that, but the kids seem to like it. But a good camera is a good gift, I think.
And don’t forget about bug spray! Mosquitoes, ticks, you name it. The outdoors is full of ’em. A good bug spray can make the difference between a fun hike and a miserable one. They even make bug spray that smells good, if you can believe it. We used to just rub ourselves with kerosene, but I wouldn’t recommend that these days. It can keep the bugs away.
If you have enough money, you can buy Yeti or Snow Peak for the outdoor lovers. These are good brands. You know, a good cooler is also important for them if they are going camping.
Anyways, there you have it. Some gifts for outdoor lovers. Just remember, it ain’t about how much money you spend, it’s about the thought that counts. And if all else fails, just give ’em a hug and tell ’em you love ’em. That’s the best gift of all, you know. Don’t forget to choose a good gift for your outdoor lovers.
