Okay, so, I’ve been on this quest, right? A quest to find the best hairbrush for Asian hair. You know, something that doesn’t make my hair freak out. I heard about this Salonkey brush, and let me tell you, I was intrigued. I mean, they say it works on wet and dry hair, and I was like, “Yeah, right, we’ll see about that.”
I decided to give it a shot. I started using this Salonkey brush, and honestly, it’s been my go-to for about three years now. But it wasn’t just about this one brush. I wanted to see what else was out there. So, I went on this little adventure, trying out, like, ten different brushes. I figured, why not? Maybe there’s something even better.

My Experiment
First off, I needed to figure out what I was even looking for. I mean, there are so many brushes. Do I need one that detangles? One that makes my hair shiny? I learned that it’s all about the bristles. Apparently, the firmer and sparser the bristles, the better for thick hair and detangling. And softer, more numerous bristles? Those are for shine and thin hair. Who knew, right?
- Paddle Brushes: I tried a paddle brush first. They’re supposed to be the all-rounders. It was okay, you know, did the job, but nothing special.
- Boar Bristle Brush: Then, I got my hands on a boar bristle brush. People say it’s good for fine, straight hair, which is me. It did make my hair feel soft, I’ll give it that.
- Wide-Tooth Comb: Next up, a wide-tooth comb. I used it mostly when my hair was wet, and it was pretty good at not pulling my hair out.
- Flexible Bristle Brush: Finally, I tried a brush with flexible bristles. This one was interesting. It was gentle, and I felt like it was massaging my scalp, which was nice.
My Thoughts
After all this, I realized something. It’s not just about finding the “best” brush. It’s about finding the right one for your hair. Like, I have this friend with super thick, curly hair, and she swears by this completely different brush. For me, that Salonkey brush is still my favorite. It just gets my hair, you know? But it was cool to try out other stuff and see what worked and what didn’t.
Oh, and I also learned about these Mason Pearson brushes. They’re handmade and apparently super high quality. I haven’t tried one yet, but they’re on my list. Maybe that’ll be my next experiment.
So, yeah, that’s my hairbrush story. It’s been a journey, but I think I’ve finally found my hairbrush soulmate. If you’re looking for a new brush, I’d say, just try a bunch of them. See what feels good on your hair. And don’t be afraid to experiment. You might be surprised at what you find!
