That Celtic pottery, you know, them old things. It’s real old stuff, from way back, when them Celts were around. They made all sorts of pots and things. They look real interestin’.
Celtic Pottery – Real Old Stuff
Them Celtic folks, they was good at makin’ things outta clay. Celtic pottery, they call it. They’d use it for all sorts of things, I reckon. Probably to hold their food and such. You know how it is. You gotta have somethin’ to put your stuff in.

I seen some pictures of them pots. They got all them fancy swirls and lines on ’em. Musta taken them a long time to do all that. They’d paint ’em too, all different colors. Red and black, mostly. They look kinda dark, but pretty, you know?
- They make ’em outta clay, from the ground.
- They used fire to make ’em hard, real hot fire.
- They used a wheel to make them round, spinnin’ around and around.
- They also make ’em by hand, it called hand-building.
- Sometimes use rope to make them, it called coiling.
How Them Celts Made Pots
Well, I ain’t no expert, but I heard they used clay. Dug it right outta the ground, I reckon. Then they’d get it all wet and mushy, and shape it into whatever they wanted. Some round things to make the pottery round, and make ’em by hand. Then, they’d put it in a fire. A real hot fire, to make it hard, like them bricks. They put the fire in a pit, or a kiln, make the Celtic pottery hard.
I heard they used somethin’ called a wheel, too. Like a spinnin’ table, kinda. They’d put the clay on there and spin it around and around. Then they’d shape it with their hands while it was spinnin’. Musta been tricky. The wheel can make the Celtic pottery smooth and same.
And some, they made ’em by hand, without no wheel. Just shaped ’em with their hands. I guess them ones wasn’t always perfectly round, but they still worked, I reckon.
That Celtic Pottery – It’s from Ireland
I hear tell that Celtic pottery is from Ireland. Long time ago, them Celts lived there. They was the ones who started makin’ them pots. They make pottery in other places, too. But Ireland, that’s where it all began, I reckon. The Celtic pottery is real old.
They still make pots over there in Ireland, I hear. Not exactly like the old ones, but similar. It’s a tradition, you know. Somethin’ they been doin’ for a long, long time. Just like how we make quilts. Same idea, I guess. This is the tradition of Celtic pottery.

Them Fancy Designs on Celtic Pottery
Them old Celtic pots, they got all sorts of designs on ’em. Lots of swirls and loops. And lines, all criss-crossin’ each other. They look kinda like them fancy knots we tie sometimes. But they made ’em different. They call it knotwork. Them Celts was real good at makin’ them designs. Musta taken ’em forever to do it. They look so complicated. The Celtic pottery looks hard to make.
And they got pictures of animals and plants on ’em, too. Not like real pictures, but kinda like drawings. They ain’t perfect, but you can tell what they are. They make the Celtic pottery looks great. I reckon they used whatever they seen around ’em for inspiration. They make them look great.
I don’t know what all them designs mean, though. Maybe they meant somethin’ special to them Celts. Maybe they was just for decoration. Hard to say. But they sure do look pretty, don’t they? The Celtic pottery is real pretty.
Them Celts Was Real Artists
You gotta give them Celts credit. They was real good at makin’ things. Not just pots, either. They made all sorts of things outta metal, too. Jewelry and such. All with them same fancy designs. They made them beautiful. The Celtic pottery is one of them.
I guess you could call ’em artists. They had a real talent for makin’ beautiful things. And they didn’t even have all the fancy tools we got today. They just used what they had. And they made some real nice stuff. The Celtic pottery is one of their artwork.
It’s good that folks are still studyin’ them old Celtic things. We can learn a lot from ’em. About how they lived, and what they thought was important. And about how to make beautiful things, even with just simple tools. They are real smart. They make beautiful Celtic pottery.

Keepin’ the Tradition Alive
It’s important to remember them old ways of doin’ things. Like makin’ Celtic pottery. It’s a part of history, you know. And it’s somethin’ that connects us to the folks who lived a long time ago. They are all gone, but we can still see their Celtic pottery.
That’s why it’s good that they still teach folks how to make pottery in Ireland. And other places, too. It keeps the tradition alive. And it gives folks a chance to be creative, just like them Celts was. It is interestin’.
Maybe I’ll try makin’ a pot sometime. Don’t think it’ll look anythin’ like them fancy Celtic ones, though. But it might be fun to try. And who knows, maybe I’ll discover I got a hidden talent for it. You never know until you try, right? I may try to make a Celtic pottery.
