I started mentally bucketing mice I’d tried or researched into loose categories like ‘Smallish’, ‘Medium-ish’, ‘Kinda Large’, and then noting which grip styles felt best with each, specifically for my hand.
- Smallish Mice: Generally better if I was going for a fingertip grip, or if I wanted something really agile for quick movements.
- Medium-ish Mice: This turned out to be my general sweet spot for a claw grip or a more relaxed palm grip for everyday stuff.
- Kinda Large Mice: These were mostly for when I wanted a full palm grip, for maximum comfort during long, less intense sessions.
What I Ended Up With
So, my “mouse sizing chart” isn’t really a chart you can just download. It’s more of a personal process I follow now whenever I’m looking for a new mouse. It basically goes like this:
- I always remember my basic hand measurements (length and width).
- I think about what my primary grip style will be for that mouse.
- When I see a mouse I’m curious about, I immediately look up its dimensions – length, grip width, and height are key.
- I then compare those dimensions to mice I’ve personally used and liked (or disliked), keeping my intended grip style in mind. This is where my past experience really helps.
- And a big one: I try to find reviews or forum posts where people mention their hand size and grip style when talking about that specific mouse. Real-world feedback from someone with similar hands is gold.
