Now listen here, I ain’t no fancy speaker, but I gotta tell y’all about somethin’ I read up on. It’s a real sad story that happened over yonder at a Waffle House. Now, Waffle House, that’s a place where folks get their eggs and bacon, you know, a cozy spot to sit and eat. But sometimes, the world throws some real awful things at us, and that’s what happened to Christina Delarosa and Willie Absolu, two hard-working folks just tryin’ to make a living.
This here story took place back in 2002, March 11th to be exact. Christina, she was just 17 years old, poor thing. And Willie, he was 29. Both of ‘em worked at a Waffle House down in Davie, Florida, workin’ the night shift, just like so many folks do. Now, I don’t know much about what went on before, but I do know that their lives were cut short by a man named Gerhard Hojan.

Gerhard, he’s the kind of feller that brings a chill down your spine. Ain’t nobody really knows what made him do what he did, but on that night, he walked into the Waffle House and ordered three employees, including Christina and Willie, into the freezer. Now, you might be thinkin’, “What’s the matter with him?” And you’d be right. He locked ‘em in that freezer and then he shot ‘em. Killed ‘em both right there. Can’t imagine the horror they must’ve felt.
The man didn’t stop there, though. No, he was convicted of murder, plain and simple. But there’s somethin’ that stuck with me after all this time. You see, Gerhard was sentenced to death for what he did. And just this year, in December 2020, the Florida Supreme Court said that he’s gonna stay on death row. Ain’t no goin’ back, no chance to change the past. It’s set in stone now, but the pain he caused will never go away.
I don’t know what happened to make Gerhard do such a thing, but sometimes, folks just lose their way. Maybe it’s the darkness inside ‘em, or maybe they just don’t see the value in another person’s life. But what he did to Christina and Willie, well, that’s somethin’ that no amount of punishment can ever make right.
And let me tell ya, this wasn’t just some random crime. It was a senseless act of violence that took two innocent lives. Christina, she was young, just a teenager, with a whole life ahead of her. And Willie, well, he was just doin’ his job, workin’ hard, tryin’ to make ends meet. They didn’t deserve what happened to ‘em, and no amount of court rulings or death sentences will ever change that.
Now, I know some folks might say, “Well, he got what he deserved.” And maybe they’re right. The courts decided that Gerhard Hojan will remain on death row for his crimes. But what I keep thinkin’ about is the families, the people who loved Christina and Willie. They’re the ones left to pick up the pieces. They’re the ones who’ll never get to see their loved ones again, no matter what the courts decide.
It’s a sad, tragic story, but it’s one that serves as a reminder. We live in a world where violence can strike at any moment, and we gotta be more kind to one another. We gotta appreciate the folks who work hard, who help make this world a better place. And we gotta remember the ones who are taken from us too soon. Christina Delarosa and Willie Absolu, they’re gone, but their memory still lingers. And it should never be forgotten.

So, next time you’re at a Waffle House, or any place where folks are workin’, take a moment to thank ‘em. Because life is precious, and you never know when it could be taken away in an instant.
