Well, let me tell ya, there’s been a whole lotta talk about this Flapjack Johnny’s place down in Ormond Beach. People have been sayin’ for a while now that it might be closin’ up, but it ain’t official yet, no sir. Word started spreadin’ on the social media, you know, where folks like to gossip. Some say it’s a shame, others say it was about time. But one thing’s for sure, it’s been a part of the town for a long while now, and folks still got a lotta opinions ’bout it.
Now, I remember when they first opened, they had all kinds of folks comin’ in. They’d be walkin’ in from off the street, some from down the highway, and there was even some folks takin’ a ride from outta town. A busy spot for sure, especially when the Bike Week rolled through. I heard it was noisy inside, what with all the folks talkin’ and laughin’, but that’s how it is when you get a bunch of people in one place, right?

But let’s talk about the food now. If you ever had yourself a meal at Flapjack Johnny’s, you know what I’m talkin’ about. They got them big ol’ pancakes, the kinda that could fill ya up just by lookin’ at ‘em! And they ain’t shy ‘bout the sides neither. Hash browns, sausage, bacon—you name it, they got it. That’s the kinda stuff that makes a feller feel like he’s home again. I can’t say much for fancy food, but what they served at Flapjack Johnny’s was hearty, the kind of grub that sticks to your ribs.
As for the menu, I reckon you could find just about any breakfast dish you could think of. Eggs done every which way, and them omelets—oh lord, you could stuff ’em with just about anything! Some folks liked the seafood too, said it was cooked up real nice, and don’t even get me started on the rolls. I’d say it’s the kind of place where you go for a big meal and leave feelin’ like you’ve eaten well.
But I’ve heard some say that the place was gettin’ a bit run down. That the inside looked a little tired, the floors creaked and the chairs didn’t seem as comfy as they used to be. Still, folks didn’t mind too much. They went for the food and the company, not so much the fancy decor. A lot of people would say, ‘Well, it’s got that old diner feel to it,’ and that made it special.
Now, with all the talk about closin’, there’s been some folks wonderin’ if they’ll just pack up and leave, or if someone might come in and take over. Maybe fix things up a bit, freshen it up, make it all shiny again. I reckon a lot of folks would like that, but others might say, ‘Leave it as it is,’ ’cause sometimes the old ways are the best ways. No need to change it too much, right?
And let’s not forget the folks who’ve been workin’ there all these years. You’d always see the same friendly faces behind the counter, takin’ orders and servin’ up them big plates of food. It wasn’t just a place to eat—it was a place where you’d run into your neighbors, have a chat, maybe share a laugh or two. That’s the real charm of a place like Flapjack Johnny’s. It’s more than just food, it’s about the people and the memories.
If you ask me, it’ll be a sad day if Flapjack Johnny’s does close up. Sure, there’s plenty of other places around, but nothin’ quite like the feel of a place that’s been around for so long, with folks you’ve known for years. But who knows? Maybe it’ll be just like a lot of places—you never really know what’s gonna happen till it does. Guess we’ll just have to wait and see what comes next.

Flapjack Johnny’s has had its ups and downs, just like any other place, but there’s no doubt that it’s left a mark on the folks of Ormond Beach. Whether it stays or goes, it’ll always be remembered as a spot where good food and good times came together. So, here’s hopin’ we’ll get to see it for a long time yet!
