Okay, so I’ve always been obsessed with Audrey Hepburn’s style, especially her iconic look in “Breakfast at Tiffany’s.” This year, I decided to finally go for it and create my own DIY Audrey Hepburn costume. It was surprisingly easy and a lot of fun!
Getting Started: The Basics
First, I needed the core of the outfit: a simple black dress. I already owned a sleeveless black sheath dress that I bought from a thrift store a while back, so that was perfect! If you don’t have one, any plain black dress that hits around the knee will work. You can find a cheap one, second hand.

Accessorizing is Key
This is where the magic happens. I knew I needed a few key pieces to really nail the look:
- Long black gloves: I found a pair of opera-length satin gloves online. They were pretty inexpensive. I searched specifically for “opera gloves,”.
- A statement necklace: Audrey’s pearl necklace is super recognizable. I didn’t want to spend a ton, so I went with a chunky, multi-strand faux pearl necklace.
- Oversized sunglasses: Luckily, I already had a pair of big, black, slightly cat-eye sunglasses. These are pretty easy to find.
- Tiaras: Can’t forget it! I bought a small, rhinestone tiara.
- Cigarette Holder(optional): Find a suitable one, or not, It’s optional.
Putting It All Together
Once I had all the pieces, it was time to assemble! I put on the black dress, then carefully pulled on the long black gloves. Next, I added the pearl necklace, making sure it sat nicely. I popped on the sunglasses and, finally, carefully placed the tiara on my head.
For my hair, I went for a (sort of) beehive updo. I’m not the best at hairstyling, so I just teased my hair a bit at the crown, pulled it back into a messy bun, and used a TON of hairspray. It wasn’t perfect, but it definitely gave the right vibe.
I finished the look with black shoes.
The Final Result!
Honestly, I was so happy with how it turned out! It was comfortable, recognizable, and didn’t break the bank. I felt super glamorous and got tons of compliments. It was such a fun project, and I’d definitely recommend it to anyone who wants a classic, chic Halloween costume. The best part? I can wear most of the pieces again separately!
