Now, listen here, I’ll tell ya somethin’ about Joshua and the big ol’ walls of Jericho, and some ideas for activities around it, just to keep the young ones learnin’ and havin’ fun. Y’know, God told Joshua He’d give Jericho right into his hands, the whole place, even the king and his fightin’ men. That’s what the Lord promised. And when God gives His word, well, you best believe it’s gonna happen!
Marchin’ ‘Round and ‘Round

One thing that always gets folks goin’ about this story is how Joshua and his men had to march ‘round the walls. Not once or twice, mind ya, but for six days, they had to go ’round once each day. Then, on the seventh day, they had to march around seven times, blowin’ them trumpets, loud as they could. Now, for kids, this marchin’ activity is a good one, helps them feel like they’re right there with Joshua. All you need is a bit o’ space, and let ’em march around, pretendin’ they’re takin’ down big walls.
- Get ‘em to blow pretend trumpets – maybe you could make some out of paper or find an old horn. It’s the blowin’ that matters!
- Shoutin’ time! – After marchin’ and pretendin’ to blow them trumpets, it’s time for a big ol’ shout. That’s how the walls came down, after all. Give ‘em the signal and let them shout their hearts out!
Rahab’s Red Rope Craft
Now, there’s another part of the story too, y’know. This gal named Rahab helped the Israelites by hidin’ the spies. They told her to hang a red rope out her window, so she and her family would be safe when Jericho fell. A real simple way to remember Rahab’s help is to have the kids make their own “red rope.” You just need some red yarn or string. Kids can tie it or hang it somewhere, rememberin’ how Rahab helped and was saved.
- Maybe they can cut a piece of red yarn and tie it on their wrist like a bracelet, just as a reminder.
- Or, they could make a bookmark with a bit o’ red string on it – helps ’em remember the story every time they see it!
Actin’ Out the Story
Kids love actin’ things out, so let ‘em pretend to be Joshua and his army. First, tell the story, and then have the kids act it out with some pretend swords, trumpets, and maybe even a wall they can knock down. You can use blocks, cardboard, or anythin’ stackable for a wall. They can march ‘round it and on that seventh round, give a big shout and knock it down. This is a fun way to keep ‘em engaged and learnin’!
Colorin’ Time with Walls of Jericho

A simple way to get little ones involved is colorin’ sheets. You can find pictures of Joshua, the walls, Rahab’s red rope, or the trumpets. Give ‘em crayons or markers and let ‘em go to town. While they color, tell ‘em the story, so they get the whole picture in their minds as they work away.
Discussion with the Kiddos
It’s always good to sit and talk with the little ones after activities, see what they think. Ask questions like:
- What did Joshua and his army do to bring down the walls?
- Why did they have to march around so many times?
- What part did Rahab play in helpin’ the Israelites?
Givin’ them time to talk and ask questions helps make the story stick. Plus, it helps them see how God helped Joshua, just like He helps us face our own big walls.
Prayer Time
Endin’ the activities with a simple prayer can help wrap things up nicely. Just a little prayer thankin’ God for helpin’ Joshua and askin’ for strength to face our own challenges can be real powerful for the little ones. Keeps the heart warm, y’know.

So, there ya have it. Some down-to-earth activities for the story of Joshua and them walls of Jericho, all meant to get kids learnin’ and keepin’ their minds on God’s strength and promises. Hope these ideas help, and may the young ones enjoy learnin’ ‘bout Joshua and the mighty walls comin’ down.
