I wanted to share a bit about something I got into recently, it’s called “peerage news.” So, basically, I started by looking into what’s been going on with the births, marriages, and deaths in the British nobility. You know, the usual stuff you hear about the upper crust.
Then I stumbled upon this whole thing about Baroness Mone and whether she could lose her title and be kicked out of the House of Lords. That got me wondering about how these titles even work. I mean, what’s an ex-prime minister’s honors list, and why is everyone making a fuss about it? I had to dig deeper.

So, I started exploring more about the peerage, baronetage, and the landed gentry in the UK. Found out that these peerage titles can’t be sold, which is kind of interesting. Apparently, besides the Royal ones, most of these titles these days are just for a lifetime.
- I learned that the King has the power to give out these titles.
- Some royals get titles like duke, earl, or baron, and it’s all part of this peerage system.
I even read about Lady Saltoun attending Prince William and Catherine Middleton’s wedding back in 2011. That’s a big deal, right?
Then there’s the whole drama with Prince Harry and Meghan Markle
Their titles are apparently a hot topic for the Royal Family during their summer holiday at Balmoral. I also came across this tidbit that Prince Harry’s titles could be taken away, but it would have to be through an Act of Parliament. And of course, King Charles III became King after Queen Elizabeth II passed away on September 8, 2022.
Anyway, I kept track of some recent deaths among peers, baronets, and their heirs. You know how it is, a few more always come to light around the end of the year and into the new year.
It’s all quite a lot to take in, but it’s been a pretty fascinating dive into the world of British nobility. I just wanted to share my little adventure into peerage news. It’s a bit of a mess, but hey, it’s interesting!
