Alright, so the other day I decided it was finally time to tackle the firmware update for my JSAUX dock. It wasn’t like it was totally broken or anything, but you know how it is, sometimes things get a little… quirky. Plus, I’d heard whispers that an update might smooth a few things out with compatibility or charging or whatnot.
Getting Prepped
First things first, I had to actually find the firmware. So, off I went to the JSAUX website. Took a bit of clicking around, you know, the usual dance through support pages and downloads sections. Eventually, I found the right file for my specific dock model. Always double-check that, folks! Grabbing the wrong one would be a real pain.
Once I had the file downloaded, I skimmed through the instructions. Looked like I needed a USB-C cable to connect the dock to my PC, and of course, the dock itself needed to be powered on. Simple enough, or so I thought.
The Actual Process – Or, The Fun Part
So, I plugged the dock into the power, then connected it to my PC using the USB-C cable. My computer made that little “bing-bong” sound, so I figured, okay, it sees it. Good start.
I ran the updater program I downloaded. It popped up, looking pretty basic. There was a button that said something like “Start Update” or “Flash Firmware,” I can’t recall the exact wording. I clicked it.
And… nothing. Well, not nothing. The progress bar just sat there. For a good minute. I started to get that familiar feeling, you know, when you’re not sure if it’s working or if you’re about to brick your expensive gadget. My patience isn’t what it used to be, I tell ya.
I decided to unplug everything, restart my PC, and try again. Sometimes that’s the magic trick with these things. Went through the same steps: power on the dock, connect to PC, run the updater.
This time, after I clicked the button, the progress bar actually started moving! Slowly, but moving. Phew. It wasn’t super fast, took maybe five or ten minutes. During that time, I just made sure not to bump the table or let the cat walk over my keyboard. Definitely don’t disconnect anything while it’s updating! That’s a recipe for disaster.
All Done?
Finally, the updater showed a message saying something like “Update Complete” or “Success.” Big sigh of relief on my end. I disconnected the dock from the PC and hooked it back up to my Steam Deck and monitor like I usually have it.
So, what’s the verdict? Well, everything seems to be working. I can’t say I’ve noticed any earth-shattering changes immediately, but the little glitches I thought I was seeing before seem to be gone. Maybe it’s a placebo, maybe it’s the firmware. Hard to tell sometimes.
The main thing is, the dock still works, and hopefully, it’s a bit more stable or compatible now. The process itself wasn’t too bad, aside from that first little hiccup. Could have been smoother, the software could have given a bit more feedback when it was “thinking,” but we got there in the end.
So yeah, that was my little adventure updating the JSAUX firmware. If you’re thinking of doing it, just make sure you get the right file, follow the steps, and have a bit of patience. It’s usually worth keeping these things up to date.
