Okay, so today I wanted to learn how to play “Victory in Jesus” on my guitar. I’ve always loved that hymn, and it felt like time to finally figure it out.
First, I grabbed my guitar and made sure it was in tune. Gotta start with a good foundation, right? Then, I fired up my laptop. I knew I needed to find the lyrics and chords.

I did a quick search for “victory in jesus lyrics chords”. Lots of options popped up, I just picked one that looked simple enough.
Figuring Out the Chords
The version I found had the basic chords: G, C, D, and Em. Nothing too fancy, which is perfect for me since I’m not exactly a guitar pro.
- G – That’s a pretty standard chord, no problem there.
- C – Another easy one, got it.
- D – Felt comfortable with this one too.
- Em – A little trickier, but I practiced the finger placement a few times until it sounded right.
I spent a good chunk of time just strumming those four chords, getting the transitions smooth. It took a while, and my fingers were definitely feeling it, but I kept at it. It’s all about muscle memory, you know?
Putting It All Together
Once I felt okay with the chords, I started trying to sing along while playing. That’s always the hardest part for me – coordinating my hands and my voice. It was clumsy at first, lots of missed chords and forgotten lyrics. I’m not gonna lie, it sounded pretty rough!
But I didn’t give up. I slowed things down, focused on one verse at a time, and kept practicing. Gradually, it started to come together. The chords flowed better, the singing was more in tune, and it actually started sounding like the song!
I’m still not perfect, but I can now play and sing “Victory in Jesus”. And that’s a pretty good feeling. It just goes to show, even if you’re not a natural, a little bit of practice can go a long way. I even tried adding a little bit of my own strumming pattern to make to fit better to me.
