Okay, so today I was messing around with trying to make some “Metro Man” gifts, you know, like from that movie Megamind? I thought it would be a fun little project.
Getting Started
First, I spent a good chunk of time just brainstorming. What exactly is a Metro Man gift? I figured it had to be something cheesy, maybe a bit over-the-top, and definitely something that screams “hero.” I watched some clips, to remember something for reference.

The Ideas
Here’s some of my original plan:
- Personalized bobbleheads: These seemed like a classic. The idea was to get a plain bobblehead and somehow customize it to look like Metro Man.
- “World’s Greatest Hero” mugs: Another pretty standard gift, but I thought I could jazz it up with some Metro Man-esque fonts and colors.
- Framed inspirational quotes: This one was a bit trickier. I was thinking of finding some suitably heroic-sounding quotes and putting them in a fancy frame.
The Process
I started with the bobblehead. I found a generic one online. I got some modeling clay and paints. My first attempt? Yikes. It looked less like Metro Man and more like…a melted snowman. The clay was all lumpy, and the paint job was atrocious. I tried to fix it, but it was beyond saving.
Attempt number two was slightly better. I watched some YouTube tutorials on sculpting with clay, which helped a lot. I also switched to acrylic paints, which were easier to work with. This one actually started to resemble Metro Man, though the proportions were still a bit off. He looked more like “Mini Metro Man.”
Then I moved on to the mugs. This was much easier. I just use some online designs, pick some, and then adjusted it a bit. I played around with different fonts and colors until I found something I liked. I think they turned out pretty good!
Finally, the framed quotes. I searched online for some quotes that felt appropriate. I printed them out and found a few inexpensive frames. I tried to make the presentation a little more exciting by adding some glitter and small star-shaped confetti, but it ended up looking a bit messy. A simple, clean look was probably better.
The Results
In the end, it was a mixed bag. The mugs were a definite success. The framed quotes were okay, and the bobblehead? Well, let’s just say it’s a work in progress. I’m still practicing my sculpting skills. But hey, it was a fun way to spend the day, and I learned a few things along the way. Maybe next time I’ll try making a Metro Man cape…
