Okay, so I only had one day in Bruges, and let me tell you, it was a whirlwind! But a good one, a really good one. Here’s how it all went down.
First things first, I got there early. Like, really early. I wanted to beat the crowds and have the city to myself for a bit, you know? I wandered around the Markt, which is the main square. It’s surrounded by all these amazing old buildings with those cool stepped roofs. I just stood there for a while, soaking it all in.

Then, I decided to climb the Belfry tower. It’s a bit of a hike, let me tell you – over 300 steps! But the view from the top? Totally worth it. You can see the whole city, the canals, everything. I spent a good chunk of time up there, just looking around and taking a bunch of pictures.
After that, I needed a break, so I found this cute little cafe near the Burg square. I ordered a coffee and a waffle – because, you know, when in Belgium! I sat outside and watched people go by. It was so peaceful.
Canal Tour Time
- Next up, I took a canal tour.
- It’s a must-do in Bruges.
- You get to see the city from a different perspective, and it’s super relaxing.
- The boat went under all these old bridges and past all these beautiful houses.
- I even saw some swans!
For lunch, I grabbed a quick bite at a place near the canal. I had some fries and a local beer. It was the perfect midday meal. I wanted more, of course, but I gotta move on!
In the afternoon, I visited the Church of Our Lady. It’s this huge, impressive church, and it has a Michelangelo sculpture inside. That’s right, a real Michelangelo! I spent some time wandering around the church, admiring the art and the architecture.
Then, I did a bit of shopping. Bruges is known for its chocolate and lace, so I picked up some souvenirs for my family and friends. I may have also bought a little something for myself, but who’s counting?
As the day was winding down, I decided to treat myself to a nice dinner. I found a restaurant with a cozy atmosphere and outdoor seating. I ordered some traditional Belgian food, and it was delicious. I savored every bite and enjoyed the evening air.

Finally, as the sun was setting, I walked back to the train station, tired but happy. I had seen so much in just one day, and I knew I would never forget my time in Bruges. It’s truly a magical place. I’m so glad I went there and did all these things!
