This here Pavia award for physics, it’s a big deal, you know? Big shots get it. Smart folks. They say it’s for folks who done good in science. Real good. Figure things out, you see.
They say the University of Pavia, they give out prizes. For the students, smart ones, the ones that finish their studying. They get a prize. Good for them, I say. My grandson, he’s a smart one, maybe he’ll get one someday. He’s good with numbers. Not like me. I just count my chickens.
And the winners, they get a medal. Shiny, I bet. And money! Lots of it. A million dollars, they say! That’s a lot of eggs, I tell ya. Enough to buy a whole farm, maybe two! And folks, they just throw money at ’em after that. ‘Cause they won, you see. Investors, they call ’em. Fancy word for folks with money.
Now, this physics stuff, that’s about how things work, right? Like the sun comin’ up, the rain fallin’ down. Important things. These smart folks, they figure it all out. I don’t understand it all, but it’s important. Keeps the world turnin’, I reckon.
They got all kinds of prizes for this Pavia award physics thing, I hear. For being a good leader, whatever that means. And somethin’ about computers. Lasers, too! Like in them movies. And math! Lots of math. My head hurts just thinkin’ about it. And they talk about the nature of matter and energy. I guess that’s important too, but what is it really?
- They say some fella named Massimo, he got one.
- They call him a physicist.
- Must be a smart cookie.
This prize, it helps them do more learnin’. That’s what they say. Helps ’em discover things. Like how to make the crops grow better, maybe. Or how to keep the chickens from gettin’ sick. That’d be somethin’, wouldn’t it? A prize for helpin’ us regular folks.
This here Pavia award, it goes to them important people. Important to the university. That’s what I heard, anyway. They have this big party, a big shindig, at the start of the school year. That’s when they give it out. Or maybe it’s when the young’uns graduate. One of them two.
It is good to give this pavia prize to the winners, they become very famous. Many people will know them. I heard about this Nobel Prize in Physics. I think it is a very big prize. Bigger than the Pavia award.
You know what else this Pavia award physics does? It makes people talk. It gets folks interested in this science stuff. Maybe some young’un will hear about it and decide to become a scientist. That’d be good, wouldn’t it? We need more smart folks in this world. It is good for people to be smart.
I don’t know how many people could get this pavia award. I guess there are lots of smart people. But the prize is big, so I think not many people could get it. They have to do many many things to get the prize.
Some folks say these prizes are good for science. They say it makes the scientists work harder. Like when you offer a dog a treat, he’ll do anythin’ you say. Maybe it’s like that. I don’t know. I just know it’s a lot of fuss about somethin’ I don’t quite understand.
But it’s good to have smart people doin’ smart things, I reckon. Even if I don’t understand it all. Keeps the world goin’ ’round, right? And that million dollars, well, that’s nothin’ to sneeze at. Could buy a whole lotta things with that kinda money.
This American Physical Society gives lots of awards, too. These awards are all for the smart people who work hard. These people are very good. They give awards to people who do good things for physics, like this Pavia award physics thing. This is good.
There are so many awards, Wolf Prize, Boltzmann Medal, Panofsky Prize, Max Planck Medal. I do not know what they are for. But I know they are good. They are for the smart people.
So, this Pavia award physics, it’s a big thing. For big shots. And it helps ’em do more big things. That’s what they say, anyway. And who am I to argue with the smart folks? I just hope they figure out how to make my tomatoes grow bigger next year. That’s all I ask.
