Okay, so today I wanted to do something a little different. I’ve always loved the idea of adventure, that feeling of the unknown and the thrill of discovery. So, I thought, why not try to write some poems about it? I’m no Shakespeare, mind you, but it sounded like fun.
First Steps (and Stumbles)
I started by just staring at a blank page. Seriously, I sat there for like 10 minutes, pen in hand, and nothing. Total writer’s block. Then I thought, “Okay, dummy, you need some inspiration!” So I did what anyone would do – I googled “poems about adventure.”

I scrolled through a bunch of stuff, some really beautiful and some, well, not so much. It gave me a few ideas, though. Different styles, different ways to talk about adventure. Some were all about epic quests, others were more about that quiet feeling of exploring a new place.
Finding My Own Voice (Sort Of)
Inspired, I started jotting down some words. Keywords, really. Things like:
- Wanderlust
- Untamed
- Horizon
- Discovery
- Challenge
Then I tried to string them together. My first attempt was…rough. It was something like “The wanderlust calls, so untamed and free, I go to the horizon, to discover me!” Yeah, pretty cheesy. I cringed a little, but I kept going.
Getting into the Groove
I played around with different formats. I tried a haiku (super short, 5-7-5 syllables), which was surprisingly tough. I managed to eke one out:
New path I will walk,

Sun on skin, a new place
Discover me.
Not bad, right? I felt a little flicker of accomplishment.
Then I went for something a bit longer, more free-flowing. I focused on that feeling of excitement before a journey, that anticipation. It came out a bit like this:
Pack my bags,

The unknown road,
It is long.
I’m still working on it, to be honest. It needs some…something. But it’s a start!
Lessons Learned (and What’s Next)
This whole poetry thing is harder than it looks! But it was also really fun. It pushed me to think differently, to play with words and try to capture a feeling.
I’m definitely going to keep practicing. Maybe I’ll even try to write a poem about a specific adventure next time, like a hike I went on or a trip I took. We’ll see! For now, I’m just happy I tried something new and got those creative juices flowing.
