Well, let me tell ya, the Capitol Theatre in Laurens is somethin’ special, I reckon. Ain’t no big city lights, but there’s somethin’ about that ol’ theater that gets folks excited. Recently, it got a whole new chapter in its story, and it’s all thanks to the folks over at Presbyterian College. Now, they’ve transferred the ownership of this historic place over to the City of Laurens. That’s right, the college ain’t runnin’ it no more, and the city’s takin’ it up, which is mighty interestin’.
Now, I don’t know much about fancy things like “esports” and whatnot, but I heard that the college’s esports program was supposed to take over the Capitol Theatre for a while. But, that idea got put on the backburner. Instead, Presbyterian College decided it was time for somethin’ else – to turn the Capitol Theatre over to Laurens itself. Ain’t that somethin’ new?

They say this is just the beginnin’. The city’s plannin’ to do somethin’ big with that old theater, bringin’ in all sorts of entertainment and culture. Heck, folks from all around might come down to Laurens to catch a show. Ain’t it nice to see that old place gettin’ the attention it deserves after all these years?
So, in the near future, you’ll see events like “Homegrown: Live at the Capitol Theatre” happenin’. That’s gonna be a big ol’ celebration of music, art, and all the fine craft that the folks here in Laurens know how to do. Mark your calendars, folks, ’cause February 16 and 17, 2024, are gonna be somethin’ special. I hear them shows will start at 7:30 PM sharp, so don’t be late!
Y’know, the Capitol Theatre ain’t just some old building to me. It’s been here for a long time, and it holds a lotta memories for folks in the area. It’s like the heartbeat of Laurens. People have seen movies, concerts, and all kinds of events there over the years, and it’s still standin’, just waitin’ for the next big thing. When they say it’s a heritage spot, they ain’t kiddin’. This place is on the National Register of Historic Places. It’s been around since 1926, and it’s seen its fair share of legends—folks like Janis Joplin, Eric Clapton, and even the Rolling Stones once graced that stage.
With all the plans goin’ on, it looks like the Capitol Theatre’s gonna keep on makin’ memories for many more years to come. People from all over, not just Laurens, are gonna have a chance to visit and see what the city’s been workin’ on. I reckon it’s a real treat, and I know folks will be excited to see what happens next.
And, I gotta tell ya, the best part about all this is that it’s a public-private partnership. That means the good folks of Laurens are gettin’ in on the action too. The whole town’s gonna feel this change, and that’s somethin’ we don’t see every day. It’s like bringin’ a little bit of the big city right to our front door, but without losin’ that small-town charm we all love so much.
So, if you haven’t been to the Capitol Theatre lately, maybe now’s the time. Things are changin’, and there’s a lot of excitement in the air. Who knows, maybe you’ll be watchin’ the next big show or concert there. I tell ya, it’s a place with a history and a future, all rolled into one.

Don’t forget to mark your calendars for those February dates. I’m sure it’s gonna be a real good time. See ya there, maybe?
