Steam Deck OLED GPU Equivalent: How It Compares to GTX 1650 and RTX 4060

Posted on 16/11/202416/11/2024 by MediaMaven

Well, y’all, if you’re lookin’ to buy that new Steam Deck OLED, I reckon you might be wonderin’ what kind of power it’s packin’ in that little device. Now, let me tell ya, it’s a bit of a mix between fancy tech and good ol’ practical power. Folks been askin’ ’bout the GPU, so let’s break it down in a way even my old eyes can understand.

The Steam Deck OLED, like the regular version, is runnin’ on AMD’s custom RDNA 2 architecture. This here RDNA 2 is the same kind of tech you’ll find in some of them new-fangled gaming consoles like the Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5. But don’t get too excited, ’cause while it’s powerful, it ain’t exactly the same as one of them fancy desktop GPUs. It’s still a handheld, after all.

Now, I’m sure y’all wanna know, how does it stack up to the big boys like them NVIDIA GeForce cards? Well, from what I’ve heard, the Steam Deck OLED’s GPU is pretty close to a GeForce GTX 1050 Ti or a GTX 1650. That’s right, folks. You ain’t gonna be runnin’ Crysis on ultra settings or anythin’, but for most games, it does a real good job. You’ll get smooth gameplay on medium settings for most of them newer games, especially since the Steam Deck OLED got that snazzy OLED screen too.

But wait a minute, don’t go thinkin’ that AMD’s GPU is just like one of them desktop cards. Nope, it’s a bit different. You might find it comparable to somethin’ like the Radeon RX 570 or the RX 5500M. If you don’t know what them numbers mean, that’s okay. Just know it’s a good middle ground for gaming on the go.

What does this mean for y’all who are lookin’ to play games?

  • For starters, it means you’ll be able to play a lot of your favorite games, but you might have to lower the settings on the newest ones like Red Dead Redemption 2 or Cyberpunk 2077.
  • It also means you’re not gonna get 4K performance, and you shouldn’t expect the Steam Deck to run games like a high-end gaming PC.
  • However, if you’re into indie games, retro titles, or older AAA games, this little gadget can hold its own real good.

Now, don’t get me wrong, the Steam Deck OLED’s GPU ain’t the most powerful thing out there. But it’s enough to make sure you’re not left behind when it comes to playing modern games on a portable device. It’s all about balance, y’know? You get a nice display, a solid GPU, and the ability to play all your games, without havin’ to lug around a big ol’ gaming PC.

So, should you get it?

If you’re lookin’ for somethin’ to play your Steam games on the go, it’s a mighty fine choice. Sure, it won’t match a high-end gaming PC or them newfangled GPUs like the RTX 4060, but for most folks, it’s plenty powerful. Plus, you get that beautiful OLED screen. If you’re already happy with a GTX 1050 Ti or a Radeon RX 570, then you won’t be disappointed. Just don’t expect miracles. It’s a handheld console, not a full-blown gaming rig.

In the end, it’s all about what you need. If you’re serious about playin’ games at the highest settings possible, this might not be the one for ya. But if you’re lookin’ to have some fun while sittin’ on the porch or layin’ in bed, then the Steam Deck OLED might just be your new best friend.
