Okay, so, I’ve been messing around with mechanical keyboards for a while now, and one thing I’ve really gotten into is keycaps. You know, those little plastic things that go on top of the switches? Yeah, those. I wanted to try out different profiles and see what all the fuss was about with SA profile keycaps. I read online that SA keycaps have a higher profile and they sit higher on the keyboard. They are even the tallest keycaps available. I thought I need to get one to try it out. So I started digging in.
First, I hit up a few forums and read a ton of posts about SA profile keycaps. Some people swear by them, saying they’re the most comfortable and give the best “thock” sound – that deep, satisfying sound you get when you bottom out a key. I really love the sound and it is the most aesthetically pleasing to me. They are so popular that they are thicker than the OEM profiles. Seems like the SA profile is pretty popular among keyboard enthusiasts. So many artisan makers choose cherry r1 to make as people put them on the f keys which are not frequently used. I knew I had to try them out for myself.

Next, I started looking for a set to buy. I found a few different options online. I decided to go with a classic color scheme that I thought would look good on my board.

Getting the Keycaps
When the keycaps finally arrived, I was pretty excited. I ripped open the package and, yeah, they were definitely taller than the keycaps I was used to. They had a nice, smooth, spherical shape to them. It is also my first time to see a sculpted keycap in person. I quickly swapped out my old keycaps for the new SA ones.

First Impressions
Typing on them for the first time was… interesting. It definitely took some getting used to. My fingers felt like they were reaching up higher to hit each key. But after a while, I started to get the hang of it.

The “Thock” Factor
And the sound? Oh man, the sound. It was definitely “thockier” than my old keycaps. I found myself just typing random stuff just to hear the sound. It was pretty addictive, not gonna lie. I totally understand why some people are obsessed with this profile now.

Long-Term Use
I’ve been using the SA keycaps for a few weeks now, and I have to say, I’m a convert. They’re super comfortable to type on, and the sound is just amazing. They’re also just really nice to look at. I used to use XDA keycaps. I feel SA is better because of its height and sound, while XDA keycaps produce a more muted sound. I feel SA profile keycaps are also good for gaming.
So, are SA profile keycaps the best? Well, it’s all subjective, of course. But for me, they’ve been a great experience. If you’re looking for a change from your usual keycaps and you want that satisfying “thock” sound, I’d definitely recommend giving SA profile keycaps a try. Just be prepared for a bit of an adjustment period while you get used to the higher profile. You might just fall in love with them like I did.
