You know, sometimes a random question just pops into your head, and you feel like you gotta find the answer. Today, for me, it was about Godiva chocolate. I was curious, who was the actual person, the chocolatier, that got Godiva started?
My Little Search Journey
So, I did what most of us do these days: I turned to the internet. I just opened up my usual search engine and typed something in. I think my search query was pretty simple, something like “who started Godiva chocolate” or maybe “founder of Godiva.” Nothing too fancy.

Right away, a whole bunch of results came flooding in. You get the usual mix, you know? Some sites were trying to sell me chocolates right off the bat – which, I have to admit, was a bit tempting! But I was on a mission for information, not a shopping spree, at least not yet.
I started scrolling through the results, looking for links that seemed more about the company’s history or background. I skipped past the obvious shop pages and looked for an “About Us” section or articles that talked about its origins. It took a little bit of clicking around. You sort of have to sift through things to get to the good stuff.
After a bit of poking around, a particular name started to catch my eye. It began to appear on several different pages, which is usually a good sign that you’re getting close to the actual answer. The name that kept showing up was Pierre Draps Sr.
From what I could piece together, this Pierre Draps Sr. seems to be the key figure, the chocolatier who really got Godiva going. I also found out that he started his business in Brussels, Belgium. That felt right, you know, Belgium is famous for its chocolate.
And there was a year mentioned quite often too: 1926. So, Godiva has been around for a good long while. It wasn’t something that just appeared overnight.
So, What Did I Find?
Okay, to put it all together from my little dive into the web, here’s the gist of what I learned:

- The famous chocolatier who started Godiva was Pierre Draps Sr.
- He established his chocolate business in Brussels, Belgium.
- And this all happened way back in 1926.
It’s always pretty neat to uncover these little bits of history behind well-known brands. Just a small discovery for the day, but it satisfied my curiosity. So, that was my process of figuring out who the original Godiva chocolatier was!
