Well now, let me tell ya, if ya go a-lookin’ through that Old Testament of the Bible, you might be surprised to find how many women are mentioned in there. More than 300 of ’em, believe it or not! And some of ’em, they got names—real names, like us folks do, not just “the wife of so-and-so” or “the daughter of so-and-so.”
You see, these women weren’t just sittin’ around, waitin’ for their husbands to do all the work. Nope! Some of ’em had their own stories, their own roles, and they sure made an impact on the world. Take Tamar, for instance. She was a woman who, well, had to take matters into her own hands when things weren’t lookin’ too good for her. Or Rahab, who, even though she wasn’t from the best of backgrounds, helped the spies and played a part in the story of God’s people. Then there’s Ruth—oh, she’s a good one. A widow who didn’t give up hope, and she ended up part of the family line of David, and even Jesus, if you can believe that. And then there’s Bathsheba, well, her story’s a little more complicated, but she was the mother of Solomon, and we all know how wise he was!

Now, these women weren’t the only ones mentioned in the Old Testament. There were plenty more, and many of them had big roles to play. But sometimes, when folks talk about the Bible, they forget about these ladies. They talk more about the men—Abraham, Moses, David, and all them. But God, He made sure to write these women into the story too. And that tells me that, no matter what time it was or how society treated women back then, God still valued them just as much as He did the men. We was all created in His image, after all, just like it says in Genesis 1:27.
And, I tell ya, when you think about the way God used these women, it’s mighty clear that He didn’t look down on ‘em. They wasn’t just there to take care of the household and bear children—though that’s important too, don’t get me wrong! But these women were leaders, helpers, and even warriors in their own ways. They helped bring about God’s plan, and some of ’em didn’t even realize the full weight of what they was doin’ at the time. But God knew, and that’s all that matters.
Like I said, it ain’t just about the famous ones, either. There’s women like Deborah, who was a prophetess and a judge over Israel. She helped lead the people in a time of need, and the Bible says she was wise and strong. And don’t forget about Esther. She saved her whole people from destruction, and if it wasn’t for her bravery, who knows what would’ve happened! And then there’s Hannah, Samuel’s mama, who prayed so hard for a son, and God answered her prayer. She didn’t give up, even when things looked tough.
So, while some folks might think the Bible’s all about the men, I reckon they’re missin’ a big part of the story. These women weren’t just extras in the background. They were part of God’s big plan, and He worked through ’em in ways that still impact us today. And let me tell ya, that’s somethin’ to be proud of.
God’s got a way of usin’ all kinds of folks, men and women alike, to do His work. And whether they’re named or not, every one of ’em matters. Even the ones who might’ve seemed small or insignificant at the time—they all played their part, and in God’s eyes, that’s important.
So, next time you flip through that Old Testament, remember the women too. They might not always get the spotlight, but they sure did their part in God’s story. And that’s somethin’ we should all take to heart, don’t you think?
